Lake County Freedom Head Coach Leads Stevenson High School to Super Sectional Game

Monday June 8,  2015

Former Lake County Liberty pitcher and curent Lake County Freedom head coach, Alex Vikartofsky leads her Stevenson High School team to the Super Sectionals today verses Barrington High School.

Vikartofsky who pitched and played outfield for the Lake County Liberty from 2004-2007 pitched for Stevenson the last time they reached the Sectional finals in 2006.

After starting the Stevenson season with a losing record this year the team has rallied to defeat both Libertyville and New Trier in sectional bracket play to advance to the Super Sectionals.

Vikartofsky and assistant coach Kate Moran have kept opposing teams off balance with accurate pitching,  strong defense, and aggressive base running throughout the playoffs.

The Stevenson team is led by pitcher Myra Peterson, leadoff hitter and center fielder, Vera Pflugradt and Auburn bound short stop Taylor Koenigs.

When she was recently asked what was behind her teams late turnaround Coach Vikartofsky said ” the team has been peaking at the right time and we’re really hitting the ball well right now”

Lake County Glory Continues Winter Training

January 19, 2015

Since November 1st the Lake County Glory has been developing their player skills and conditioning.

In November and December the team did fielding and defensive work at Pro Player Sports in McHenry.  Players worked on catching, and throwing from different positions and transitioning thru double plays.

The players also worked thru various hitting stations designed to improve their ability to hit pitches in-middle and on the outside part of the strike zone.

Since January 5th the team has worked at The Ball Park in Mt Prospect.  At this facility the playerd work on training their eves to see pitched balls deeper into the strike zone.

In addition, the team works on hitting live and machine pitching, front and back arm hitting and various skill development stations.

In both locations the team has also worked on player conditioning with the staff from Blackline Athletic. Each week the Blackline staff puts the Glory players thru a variety of drills to improve their speed agility and overall conditioning.

Each year, Lake County Fastpitch teams play a very competitive schedule of local, regional and national , ASA and PGF  qualifying tournaments.

Lake County Glory Looking to Add Pitcher / Catcher

October 6th – Lake Zurich Illinois

The 14U Lake County Glory is looking for a pitcher and catcher to round out their staff.

The ideal pitcher will have good speed, strong control of the strike zone and be willing to pitch significant innings. The best candidate will have 2-3 pitches she can throw for strikes in game situations and have a strong mound presence. Being a good hitter would be an excellent bonus.

The ideal catcher will have a strong and accurate arm and the ability to block balls in the dirt and off the plate. Having the ability to call her own game would be a plus.

Our current team is a good mix of 7th, 8th and Freshman players who are strong offensively and defensively. We will consider solid ball players within those age groups.

Every year, the Lake County Glory plays an “A”level schedule of ASA, PGF and College Exposure events. Lake County Fastpitch teams attend ASA Nationals every year.

In addition, during the winter months the team conditions and trains at Pro Player Sports and The Ball Park facilities in the Northwest suburbs.
