Freedom Player Mallory Klotz Has Big Day As New Berlin West Defeats Rival Eisenhower

NEW BERLIN – New Berlin West scored a run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to
break a 1-1 tie and beat New Berlin Eisenhower 2-1 in a battle of Woodland Conference division champions Monday at Eisenhower. West is 16-1 in conference and 18-3 overall. Eisenhower is 16-1 in conference and 19-4 overall.

With the right side of the infield back, Sophomore shortstop Mallory Klotz beat out a 2 strike slap single to second in the seventh. On the next pitch, Klotz took off to steal second and stayed out of the force on a groundout to the shortstop. Klotz scored the winning run on a single by junior right fielder Carey Devine.

Klotz hit a one-out double off the fence in the third on the first pitch and scored on junior second baseman Kelly Duggan’s single to start the scoring for West in the third.

Eisenhower, which tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the third, got a two-out double from junior Katie Lang (Freedom / Liberty) in the bottom of the seventh but she was stranded.

Klotz was 3 for 4 (adding a two out single in the fifth) while junior first baseman Alison Kuhne had two of West’s seven hits. West junior Abby Kunz pitched a three-hitter, striking out 11 and walking one.
